As you may have seen here on our blog and many of you in person, we ran an Italian themed night last Thursday at our dealerships in Dunstable!

The night was superbly hosted by Roberto Perrone from BBC Three Counties Radio and focused on the Italian culinary skills of Nicole Bragaglia who you’ll know for her culinary skills showcased on BBC 1, Living TV, UK Food, Radio 2 and BBC 3 counties radio.

Nicole provided the entertainment by taking to the stage and cooking some famous Italian dishes all with the assistance of Roberto and speaking from direct experience, they were delicious! Even the pasta with extra chillis to separate the men from the boys went down a storm! On the night there were various prize draws and lots of Fiat memorabillia to be won as a momento of the evening...

Citroen Announce The Forthcoming DS4...

Here are some of the first pictures which detail the brand new Citroen DS4. Building on the success of the DS3 supermini, the DS4 moves things up a notch as Citroen adapt the forthcoming Citroen C4 to great effect!

Key Features:

Hidden rear doors - giving it the look of a 3 door coupe
Panoramic windscreen which goes right back in to the roof
370 litre boot (50 more litres luggage space than the outgoing Citroen C4)
LED daytime running lights
Chrome tinted window surrounds
Rear spoiler
New bumpers
Alloy wheels (up to 19-inch)

Inside there is enough room for five people and plenty of chrome detail to make passengers feel like they are on a special journey. This is further enhanced by ambient lighting in the cabin and aluminum pedals.

Special attention has also been paid to reducing interior noise with improved sound proofing. The DS4 will be launched with five engines, including two HDi diesels with 110 and 160bhp.

The 110bhp version can be specified with Citroen’s e-HDi package, which includes stop and start and an electronic gearbox, to improve fuel economy.

Chevrolet Introduces Their New MPV

Chevrolet's have announced their first European MPV which will be called the Orlando, contain 7 seats and will be available from Hartwell Chevrolet in early 2011.

There are some definite similarities between the Orlando and the popular Chevrolet Cruze as they share the same platform. There will be one petrol engine available, a 1.8 litre with power output of 141bhp and two diesel units, the latest version of Chevrolet's 2.0 litre engine with outputs of 131bhp (low output) or 163bhp (high output).

Wayne Brannon, president and managing director for Chevrolet Europe, said: “The new Orlando MPV kicks off an ambitious seven-product launch program over the next 15 months.

"We're confident the Orlando not only brings great value for money to the MPV class but also something fresh - function with attitude if you like - and the opportunity for us to continue building our volume across Europe. I believe it will also bring more new customers to the Chevrolet brand."

Customers will also be able to choose from four trim levels in the UK with standard equipment on all cars including electronic stability control, six air-bags, air conditioning and electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors.

Motorists Travelled 600 Million Miles Last Year To Avoid Motorways! Were You Among Them?

It was reported by the AA that last years their online Route Planner was used to devise more than 5 million routes specifically to steer clear of motorways. The routes, weaving under, over and alongside busy multi-lane roads, averaged over 125 miles each. Stretched end-to-end they would extend around the world 24,000 times!

AA Driving School's head of driver development, Mark Peacock, says:

"There is much evidence that motorways are our most feared and avoided roads, yet statistically they are safer than other roads. By steering clear of them drivers not only face a longer, slower journey, but are potentially putting themselves at greater risk on A-roads**.

"With help, many find they can quickly overcome their fears. Tailored motorway tuition with a fully-qualified instructor can help drivers build the skills and confidence to make our motorway network work for them."

The Daily Mail recently posted a list of points about the new Nissan Cube 'Kaisen' 1.6 manual. It was a really good review following the road test of this unique car so we thought we'd share with our readers here:

"It makes you smile, and that can't be bad. It's weird, wacky and so different it almost proves that it's cool to be square. and, with bags of character, this fun five-door will get you noticed.
Sits high and upright giving you a commanding view of the road — like being in a London taxi. and when you open the door, you virtually step straight into the seat. No bending, no twisting.
Smart, well thought-out interior in a space which Nissan, rather pretentiously, calls a 'Jacuzzi Curve'.
Interior takes its inspiration from a club lounge, with soft curves. Lots of room in the back with flexible, folddown rear seats. You'll get three in the back, at a squeeze, but two in comfort.
Chock full of standard equipment including rear privacy glass, mP3 connection, vast glass roof, 16-inch alloys, cruise control, push button start and an electronic no-touch ignition key, rearparking camera and electronic stability.
The sat-nav system is very good and intuitive and the sound quality on the stereo is terrifiic.
All this and a price that doesn't break the bank. my car cost £16,917 on the road.
But the range starts from just £14,000.
Good fuel economy, too: 1.6litre petrol engine averages 42.8mpg, 50.4mpg when cruising and 34mpg around town. Co2 emissions are a pretty fair 155g/km.
Has about as much aggression as a damp sponge. But an unexpected consequence is just how polite other drivers become towards you. It's so unthreatening it's the perfect UN car for world peace."

Hartwell extends Nissan ‘scrappage’ scheme in Scunthorpe

Following on from the success of the Government’s successful car scrappage scheme, which ended in February, Hartwell Nissan has launched its own, extended ‘scrappage’ initiative which will run until the end of June.

Hartwell Nissan, which shares the Ford and Citroën dealership site in Station Road, Scunthorpe, has extended the manufacturer’s British Built Trade-in Scheme, which guarantees a £2,000 minimum trade-in against any new British built Nissan for tradein vehicles over seven years old. Previously, the offer only applied to models aged eight to ten years old.

New Nissans eligible for Hartwell’s offer, which will run until 30 June, include the popular Micra, the award-winning Note supermini, the stylish Qashqai and versatile seven-seater Qashqai+2 cross-over vehicles, all of which are produced in the UK said Hartwell.

“There’s no doubt that the Government’s ‘Scrappage’ scheme along with Nissan’s own trade-in scheme has given the UK economy a welcome boost,” said Gary Medden, Hartwell Nissan’s newly-appointed sales manager. “As Nissan is one of the most popular UK-built car brands, we are confident that extending the scrappage scheme will enable more people to make real savings on a new car, which is always welcome in the current difficult economic climate,” added Gary.

Hartwell Scunthorpe’s New Focus On Customer Service

As reported recently, we've set our sights firmly on future business in Scunthorpe by driving forward at our newly opened Nissan and Citroën dealerships. We have created a new, customer focused business strategy and made key management appointments aimed at reintroducing the Nissan and Citroën brands to the area, which have been sorely missed since the demise of the Dixon Motor Group in 2006.

Paul Kellett has joined as the new general manager and wasted little time in reorganizing the dealership and promoting his managers into new areas of responsibility. With more than 25 years of motor trade experience, much of it gained with locally-based retail groups, Paul is spearheading a new approach to customer service: “One of my tasks is to create a customer focused, friendly face for Hartwell in Scunthorpe and invite Nissan and Citroën owners to meet our new team. There is a new spirit at Hartwell and we want to tempt customers back with a combination of unbeatable new and used car deals, excellent value for money and customer-friendly service.” he said.

And this new focus on customer service is already bearing fruit, according to Paul, with Harwell reporting sales increases of 200-300 per cent on new and used cars in the first quarter of this year. This is due in no small part to new Nissan and Citroën models that have come on stream in the past few months, such as the face-lifted Nissan Qashqai, the popular Micra and Note models and the dynamic new Citroën C3 and DS3.

Central to opening up Nissan and Citroen sales has been the appointment of Gary Medden as Hartwell’s new sales manager. Gary, who was previously Business Manager at the Scunthorpe dealership, brings more than ten years of experience to his new appointment and strongly favours the personal approach: “I believe that people like to buy from people, not computers, and so customer service is our number one priority. We always do everything we can to ensure they drive away satisfied – and preferably in one of our cars!” said Gary. “Word of mouth can be a powerful selling tool and we want to make things right first time for our customers and be the best in Scunthorpe!” he added.

Another key appointment is Ian Beckett as the new Business Manager at Scunthorpe. Ian has worked with local car dealerships for over ten years and joined Hartwell Scunthorpe in 2007 as sales Executive. These efficiencies have been made possible due to the 're-homologation of the 1.6 and 2.0 Hdi diesel engines in both the models'. The additional bonus for potential purchasers comes from the improved co2 emissions which as well as helping the environment, also help your cash-flow as a result of a one point reduction in BIK tax rates for all versions and lower first year VED for the 1.6 Hdi 110hp manual models from £125 to only £110.
